“THE HINDU” CONTINUES TO SUPPORT CRIMINAL B.V.SEETHARAM : Rows of empty chairs in a seminar = 3 column coverage!

April 25, 2007

Reporting standards of “The Hindu” continues to fall and one has to wonder what yardstick is employed in giving coverage to events which are designed to attract media and nothing else.

Take the example of recent “seminar” in Mangalore which was addressed by retired (and out of work) and “fishing for Human Rights causes” judge M.F.Saldanha. People like Saldanha continue to think the arrest of B.V.Seetharam is a “freedom of press” issue when all evidence point otherwise.

Reality – rows and rows of empty chairs and hardly dozen in the audience which included B.V.Seetharam and wife – accused and arrested in Jain community blackmail case in Mangalore.

Where is the audience? Those present include BVSee and those from media

And coverage in “The Hindu” of the same event (click for larger image)

“The Hindu” coverage of Saldanha’s seminar

Note three columns coverage for a seminar where there were hardly dozen people in the audience – most of them bored students (excluding media representatives)

Is this the TOIfication of “The Hindu”?

While “Times of India” provides columns to publish photos of models and cine stars, “The Hindu” seems to be doing the same by supporting criminals like B.V.Seetharam and giving wide coverage to “intellectual models and Human Rights stars” like M.F.Saldhanhas.

Or should we rather ask “is this Karavali Ale fication” of “The Hindu”?

Why exactly “The Hindu” continues to support someone like B.V.Seetharam who has been repeatedly accused of taking money for creating communal problems in Coastal Karnataka and was recently arrested by police in two different districts for blackmailing Jain Gurus and community?

Whatever the real answer is it is sad to see the fall of reporting in once mighty newspaper like “The Hindu”.

B.V.Seetharam’s bail plea rejected by High Court – indignant BVSee now says he will move to Supreme Court

Karnataka High Court rejects bail plea of B.V.Seetharam and his wife

The Karnataka High Court has dismissed petition by B.V.Seetharam seeking blanket anticipatory bail.

This slap in the face has not prevented B.V.Seetharam -who often misquotes judicial verdicts in his newspapers to tarnish reputation of innocents – in boasting that he will go to Supreme Court!

It is a pity that no one – even his fellow journalists – bother about B.V.Seetharam now. BVSee was arrested earlier for writing derogatory articles against Jain munis and community. It is an open secret that B.V.Seetharam turned against Jain community after his demand for money from Jain community was not met.

By the way thanks to all those who wrote to Human Rights Commission about B.V.Seetharam’s blackmail journalism and making it clear to everyone concerned that arrest of B.V.See was not an issue of “Freedom of Press” as being portrayed in some sections.
