B.V.Seetharam case : CNN-IBN Reporter Threatens this blogger for exposing factual error in his report. “Freedom of media” applies only to Main Stream Media and not bloggers?

D.P.Satish of CNN-IBN misguides viewers by spreading false news to cover his friend blackmail journalist B.V.Seetharam

D.P.Satish of CNN-IBN

D.P.Satish of CNN-IBN has threatened Udupi Press Victim for exposing factual errors in his report on this blog.

D.P.Satish writes:

Nobody has given you the rights to tarnish the image of an honest and professional journalist in the name of exposing blacksheeps (sic) in the media. Now, either you prove all charges against me or tender an apology. If you don’t publish my reply and remove post about my role, me and my channel CNNIBN will be forced to initiate criminal proceedings against you and your blog site. Our company (A Time Warner venture) is well within its rights to file cases against you in a Delhi court and a court in the USA under IPC, CrPC and Cyber laws of both India and America.

You asked for proof and here you have it.

Ok let us take this one step at a time.

D.P.Satish’s report telecast on CNN-IBN whose transcript is available on CNN-IBN website (http://ibnlive.in.com/news/newspaper-editor-held-for-criticising-rss/82244-3.html) says the following:

Misleading headline in CNN-IBN

Misleading headline in CNN-IBN

D.P.Satish may disown the headline, but a reporter’s name is right below the headline how can one claim innocence?

D.P.Satish may say he is telecasting what B.V.Seetharam told – but isn’t it the duty of journalist to provide both side of the story or at least make it clear in the heading that story subject said so?

There are two factual errors staring at anyone who has followed arrest of blackmail “journalist” B.V.Seetharam.

  • D.P.Satish’s headline says “Editor” – B.V.Seetharam is neither Editor or Reporter for “Karavali Ale” by his own admission. He has submitted affidavit to this effect in the court (different matter BVSee is doing that to send some bakra Editor to jail in blackmail / defamation cases)
  • D.P.Satish’s headline indicates BVSee was arrested for writing against RSS – this is false. BVSee was arrested per a non-bailable warrant issued by Hon’ble Judge in a District Court.  Also it is not clear at all that BVSee said so as D.P.Satish claims.  If that was the case headline would have been in the lines of “Journalist claims he was arrested for writing against RSS”.

These are the facts.

D.P.Satish never bothered to check other side of the story where an innocent person Bhojaraja Shetty was painted as a rapist in B.V.Seetharam’s newspapers just because Mr.Shetty refused to bow down to BV Seetharam’s demand for 1 Lakh Rupees.

Click here for Bhojaraja Shetty’s version of events leading up to arrest of blackmail journalist.

So to conclude, we stand by our earlier post exposing D.P.Satish’s unethical, if not lazy reporting.

We will be happy to modify the post as requested by D.P.Satish, provided:

  • Mr.D.P.Satish modifies the heading on CNN-IBN portal to reflect facts OR
  • Telecast other side of the story – where an innocent poor teacher was portrayed as a rapist by B.V.Seetharam in his newspapers just because Mr.Bhojaraja Shetty refused to bow down to 1 Lakh Rupees demand by B.V.Seetharam.

Bhojaraja Shetty’s Press Conference on YouTube:

From UdupiChannel, here is YouTube video of Press Conference in Udupi where victim of BVSeetharam, Bhojaraja Shetty explained his side of the story. Check from 6:00 (Video is in Kannada).

Mr.Satish, we’ve made it easy for you – you have the video footage below, you have other side of the story, you have the sound bytes (albeit in Kannada).

****

On a related note isn’t it odd to see a MSM (Main Stream Media) reporter name dropping CNN, Time Warner, USA etc and such in his bid to cover errors in his reports? Are bloggers supposed to fear Time Warner or USA etc?

It is very ironic that D.P.Satish who himself maintains a blog (http://ibnlive.in.com/blogs/author/237/dpsatish.html) is now threatening freedom of expression of a fellow blogger.

Also begs a question – is freedom of press an exclusive domain of “traditional” or “Main Stream Media” journalists?

****

And as far as Satish’s threats – he can silence a blog using his corporate muzzle power, but backups of this blog are ready to go on servers of Russia, Spain and Korea should Satish goes ahead with his threats.

  1. John Mysore Says:

Journos cover for their own ilk, so it is not surprising one sided stories are telecast when they are caught red handed. Three cheers to standing up to your rights!!!!

  2. Ibrahim M Says:

Satish portrays in his report as if all journalists are supporting this blackmailer B.V.Seetharam.

It has to be noted that only few leftists (who claim to be journalists) like Gowri Lankesh – who was kicked out of her own newspaper for supporting naxals – are supporting BVSee.

None in main stream media are even reporting BVSee’s arrest, so I am not sure why DP Satish has tried to become a hero. May be to appease Sardesai who incidentally issued a press note condemning BVSee’s arrest without verifying facts.

  3. Yogish Bhavi Says:

Good job blogger exposing these guys!!!

  4. D P SATISH Says:

Thanks for trying to explain me your stand or post. But, what about your post on me?
You have tried to malign my image and character by calling me a friend or agent of BV Seetharam.

No blogger has the right to use blogs to tarnish the image of others. If you are so concerned about corruption in the media, do it in a professional/legal manner.

You can’t write whatever you want about somebody like me, who has nothing to do with the entire B V Seetharam episode.

First, remove obejectionable parts about me from your post.

    Editor’s note:
    >>>> You are taking this way too personally Mr.Satish. We have made it clear in the post that we are only pointing out factual errors in your report. We also made it clear that if CNN-IBN corrects the report we will be happy to remove reference to you as a reporter. If your original report’s tone was different we will accept that and remove the post (we understand how it is newsrooms and reports get mangled by subeditors) – just send us the proof.

Your report heading and tone portrays that it is because of RSS that the Editor was arrested – which is just not true as arrest warrant was issued by a district court. We also provided you video footage of B.V.Seetharam’s victim’s press conference.

  5. Rafi Belman Says:

I am no RSS fan but dragging RSS to this incident is wrong.

I am neighbour of of Bhojaraja Shetty and know what he and his family has gone through due to Karavali Ales blackmail. His wife has psychological problem now because of this sick journalist.

Blooger – don’t get distracted with this IBN reporters petty ego. We are with you.

  6. D P SATISH Says:

I am posting this reply to udupipressvictims.wordpress.com here on churumuri because that blogsite, with the avowed aim of exposing “victims of the media”, doesn’t seem to know the basics of journalism or believe in following them.

I am posting this reply here also because that blogsite which wants to lecture the world on the ethics of journalism (as it believes must be practised), seems to mistakenly believe that its anonymity gives it a licence to do what it pleases.

It has selectively quoted from my full reply to it. I do not want them to give them the cheap thrill of twisting my reply a second time round to suit its ulterior interests.

    1. The headline for my CNN-IBN story on the arrest of B.V. Seetharam said, ‘Editor arrested for criticising RSS’. That is a headline given by our web editorial staff. That headline may be right or wrong. If udupipressvictims thinks that our headline is wrong, that is its choice and it can question it by all means. But it has no right to malign my image and cast aspersions on my professional and/or personal integrity. It certainly cannot intimidate or blackmail journalists. Several other television channels and newspapers have carried similar headlines and similar stories with similar conclusions. How come udupipressvictims has not found the time to catch them “red-handed”?

    2. My story was not only about B.V. Seetharam’s arrest by the BJP-led government in Karnataka and the protest march of journalists in Bangalore. It was also about how the media is being hounded by the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy-led Congress government in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Between a faceless blogsite which twists my response (while claiming to protect “press victims”), and a television channel which covers the violations of media freedoms in two different states ruled by two different parties, I am sure discerning readers of churumuri will be able to appreciate the difference and the objective.

    3. If udupipressvictims doubts the contention that B.V. Seetharam’s was arrested because he criticised the RSS, on what grounds does it fully and completely trust a school teacher’s allegations of blackmail made in a press conference or in a newspaper report of the same? Only the courts can decide if Bhoja Shetty’s claims are genuine or not. If genuine, the law will take its own course. Till such time, neither udupipressvictims nor any other blog, website, newspaper, magazine or TV channel can sit in judgment over the case.

    4. If B.V. Seetharam’s character is not above suspicion in the eyes of udupipressvictims, it has has no business to tarnish the image of other professional journalists merely to settle personal scores with Seetharam.

    5. A blogsite which claims to champion “victims of the press” took five days to react to my mail, and when it did so, it twisted the facts. If this is its concern for the other side, god save the victims of udupipress.wordpress.com. True to its record of twisting facts to suit its interest, the blogsite now claims that I am threatening them. Can they produce any evidence to attest this claim? What I have demanded is that they carry my version of the story and an apology. Instead of admitting to its mistake, it is now trying to defend its malicious campaign against me and CNN-IBN by its own twisted explanation/ posts. In fact, they are the ones who are actually threatening me and other professional journalists from carrying out their duties.

    6. If udupipressvictims.wordspress.com has nothing to hide or fear, if it really believes in exposing journalists, if it really believes in protecting “victims of the press”, it needs to demonstrate it on its website, instead of indulging in anonymous character assassination of the very nature it decries and claims to champion against. Being a blogger doesn’t give immunity from the law. Nobody has the right to malign others in the name of exposing the black sheep in the media.

    8. As a blog udupipressvictims.wordpress.com has every right to ask questions, but it cannot intimidate, threaten or tarnish individuals or institutions, or impute motives, or twist and contort their stand. If they do, they will have to face the long arm of the law, sooner if not later.

    >>>>Editor’s note:
Mr.Satish, your comment and threat speaks for itself. You are now saying report heading is not yours and so on. Tomorrow you may even tell you are not D.P.Satish of CNN-IBN.

This is not Churumuri to withdraw comments published after your threats! (Background info: multiple comments posted on Churumuri exposing one of their regular D.P.Satish’s lies were removed later, probably due to threats by Satish)

You talk about us not publishing your juvenile rants and threats? What about comments people posted to your article exposing your lies on CNN-IBN website? Where are they? Where did they disappear? Walk the talk before sending threats.

Since we have no way to identify you are indeed D.P.Satish of CNN-IBN and not some impostor, we have no further comments. If you are indeed D.P.Satish your comment above is enough to convince anyone about your prejudices. Stop sending spam and threats.
