perpetualprotestors.jpg

SAGA OF FAKE JOURNALISTS CONTINUES – Yet another blackmailer in the guise of “journalist” arrested

January 28, 2007

Fake journalists galore in Coastal Karnataka

Regular readers of this blog are aware how this blog has fought against blackmail journalism prevailing in Mangalore and Udupi and also at Karnataka / India in general. In fact, we started this blog to expose two fake journalists entering hospital emergency room in Manipal and taking photos of patients there without authorization. In the process they also interfered with medical staff who were busy treating seriously injured patients. And to top it all, notorious Udupi Press Club supported these fake journalists.

Since then we have regularly reported on criminals running newspapers with sole purpose of blackmail, murderers posing as journalists, editors like B.V.Seetharam of Karavali Ale group taking money from jobless politicians to create communal riots,  journalists running liquor shops, journalists looting temple money by currying favour with political parties, journalists taking “gani kappa” from mining lobby truck owners etc etc.

And now comes a report from Puttur about a “journalist” who tried to blackmail businessmen and was caught by police.

Fake journalist arrested in Puttur

At the rate at which fake journalists are being caught in Udupi Mangalore area, one has to wonder are there any genuine journalists left at all in this region?

We yet again demand there be a standard, uniform media credentials or ID in India. See our earlier post on “Case for standard / uniform credentials and ID for media in India”.

Every other professional job in India requires some sort of qualifications and credentials, but anyone claiming to be a “journalist” without any ID can go scot free. Any attempt to question this results in the usual rhetoric about “attack on freedom of press” without addressing the core issue of fake journalism.

If not government, how difficult it is for genuine journalists to come together and establish some sort of ID / verification mechanism for their own benefit before general public start treating every journalist / media person as fake? It is time real media personalities stand up on this issue.

BANGALORE – MINISTER P.CHIDAMBARAM’S TOE FRACTURED:Times of India paparazzi chase and injure India’s finance minister. TOI Editor and photographer later beg and apologise to minister

December 25, 2006

India’s finance minister chased and injured by Times of India photographer

In a shocking incident, Times of India Bangalore’s photographer harassed India’s Finance Minister P.Chidambaram and his family while the later was dining with his family members at Bangalore’s famed restaurant Koshy’s on St.Mark’s road.

From the report:

Police sources said that being on a private outing, Mr. Chidambaram was in an attire different from his usual white dhoti and white shirt. The family was perturbed on noticing the photographer waiting outside and there was a scuffle. The Minister was thereafter taken to the Manipal Hospital on Airport Road. He has been advised rest for a fortnight.

Apparently, despite repeated requests to not take photographs, Times of India’s photographer proceeded to take photos while P.Chidambaram and family were coming out of the restaurant. In the resulting scuffle, Mr.Chidambaram fell and broke his toe.

In short – due to stupidity and desperation of a photographer, Finance minister of one of the world’s largest economy is on forced rest for two weeks (click here for detailed report of the incident from “The Hindu”)

Regular readers of this blog are aware how we have exposed corrupt media elements and fought for patient privacy from media in Indian hospitals. Sadly, as this incident shows even one of the most important ministers of India  is not immune to media invasion of private lives. (Chidambaram was on a private visit with his family, grandkids to Koshy’s)

TOI EDITOR AND CULPRIT PHOTOGRAPHER RUSH TO HOSPITAL: DELETE THE PHOTOS IN FRONT OF THE MINISTER, BEG AND APOLOGISE WITHIN MINUTES!

According to our sources, Chidambaram made some calls to Times of India honchos with not so subtle threat on investigating Times empire financial irregularities UNLESS the photos taken by its photographer is not deleted in front of him in an hour.

And within minutes, Times of India’s Bangalore resident Editor and the culprit photographer (who caused the fracture) rushed to hospital to beg forgiveness from the minister and deleted the photos in the presence of minister.

Well, Mr.Chidambaram can afford to do that. But what about other citizens whose privacy is increasingly being invaded by media day in day out? As we have seen earlier in Manipal Hospital incident, two criminals posed as press photographers entered Emergency Room and prevented doctors from attending the patients by taking nude photographers inside the Emergency Room.  (Click here to read complete details of the incident)

Any one with a digital camera now claim to be a journalist and harass people. It is not that there are no laws on invasion of privacy – there are. But any attempt to question these thugs posing as media photographers is labelled as “attack on freedom of press” and all that.

We salute “The Hindu” and its reporter S.Rajendran who has given detailed report about the incident in Dec 25th Bangalore Edition of “The Hindu”. Click here to read full report from Hindu Online Edition.

We also wish a speedy recovery of Mr.Chidambaram. World economy is changing rapidly and it is sad he has to suffer for two weeks due to some silly photographer.

BLOG EXCLUSIVE:UDUPI PRESS CLUB MISUSING GOVT EDUCATIONAL FACILITY FOR COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES? USING LIQUOR WITHOUT EXCISE PERMIT INSIDE SCHOOL COMPOUND!

November 29, 2006

Udupi Press Club using Government Junior College Udupi

Government Junior College, Udupi – popularly known as Board Highschool is the location of Udupi Press Club’s “office” – if you can call a bar like environment as office. Must be only place in the whole state or country where government has allocated office to bunch of blackmailers, criminals, scamsters right inside an educational institution.

But that is just tip of the iceberg.

Office-bearers and members, self-styled journalists of this “club” openly smoke, drink alcohol in their office in open day light – all in the presence of school / college going kids.

Afterall, members of Udupi Press Club already have lot of experience running liquor dens as seen during “journalist” Hitendra Prasad murder investigation. Click here to read more about it.

During day time Udupi Press Club office in Board Highschool compound acts as a hangout for scamsters in the guise of journalists (see our earlier posts on a Udupi journalist indicted in a temple scam), Naxal informant criminal case facing fake journalist Sreerama Diwana (click here to read more about this fake journalist), well known insurance fraud lawyers and all colourful characters we have covered in our blog earlier.

It is also alleged that liquor is openly served in Udupi Press Club day in day out – without any permit for distributing alcohol. Why is Excise Department silent about this open flouting of laws by “journalists”?

Why is Udupi District administration tolerating this blatant misuse of government facility?

Udupi Press Club collecting thousands of rupees in the name of donation

Udupi Press Club which is using all this government freebies, charges hundreds of rupees to host a press conference in this government facility (this is in addition to charging for cost of refreshment, bottle etc) Why is government allowing use of its facility for COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES by Udupi Press Club?

Is Udupi Press Club filing any income tax returns on thousands of rupees collected?

Udupi Press Club forcing donation from political parties, commercial establishments

If using all government goodies is not enough, just enter Udupi Press Club office. You will be welcomed by furniture “donated” by Syndicate Bank, fans donated by Congress Party and so on.  Did Syndicate Bank or Congress party voluntarily donate these goodies to Udupi Press Club or were they blackmailed into donating these?

If not why is nationalised bank like Syndicate Bank spending lakhs of rupees on an organisation like Udupi Press Club who have been exposed as fake journalists, criminals, scamsters?

More than that, how can public expect fair coverage from media of Udupi when they have openly accepted gifts, donation from commercial and political establishments? Whatever happenned to media being impartial and fair?

COMING UP NEXT:Exclusive photos of Udupi Press Club and its members misusing government facility. Also bunch of questions to Udupi Press Club. Watch this space!

UDUPI PRESS CORPS DO IT AGAIN – Patient privacy violated by media in Udupi District Government Hospital

November 6, 2006

Udupi Press again violates patient privacy

Photo says it all (note it is not a doctor who is pulling shirt out of patient)

Location: Udupi District Government Hospital

Media in Udupi yet again openly violates all press norms and journalistic ethics by forcefully taking photos of patients in Government Hospital. All the usual suspects whom we have covered earlier can be seen clearly in the photo.

One has to wonder – does any regular laws and journalistic ethics apply to media in Udupi / Mangalore at all?

Case for standard/uniform credentials and ID for media in India

November 4, 2006

Most of us in India have come across people who throw around their weight and claim to be from “press” or some “TV channel”. It appears any Tom Dick and Harry can claim to be from “Press” and getaway with anything they want – be it in public or in private.

Paparazzi fake Indian journalists

Here in Karnataka almost on daily basis we are seeing arrests of “fake journalists” (see report below of arrests in Bangalore)

Fake journos

(From Deccan Herald, 4th Nov)

We saw with disgust during Mumbai bomb blasts when visual/print media without any respect for deceased/injured thrust their mikes and camera into the partially naked bodies.

And some channels/newspapers even encourage citizens to be voyeurs and send photos taken from cell phones! Disgusting – whatever happenned to concept of privacy or basic human dignity?

With the mushrooming of TV Channels and newspapers, it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish if one is a genuine media person or some pervert who is using “media” tag to do unethical activities – like taking photos of college girls without their permission or taking photos/video of patients who are naked inside the hospital emergency room.

Almost on daily basis we are seeing “media” people getting arrested for cheating etc. See this latest news from Bangalore above.

When challenged these “media” people get unruly and start shouting that they are in “public space” – whatever that means.

Fake journalists

(above news clip from Vijaya Karnataka)

With the rapid growth of services industry, even in small town India we see store clerks, janitors, sales people wearing or having some sort of ID. And other professionals like doctors, lawyers can be readily identified by their attire.

So why is that we don’t have any sort of standard credentials or ID for media people in India? Except for some big TV channels most of media in India don’t carry any ID.  This has resulted in mushrooming of fake journalists and media who think saying the magic word “PRESS” entitles them to whatever they wish to do – and as we have reported earlier in this blog, even invading private spaces like homes, schools, hospitals. Not to mention the whole underworld-media blackmailing nexus like “Karavali Ale” group – which goes after officials, police officers, politicians if they don’t pay money to its reporters.

So what is the solution? Press Council of India – supposedly the watchdog of print media is spineless when it comes to acting on complaints against yellow journalism.  And there is no central Press Association when all Press Clubs and Associations in Indian cities are mirred in their own in-fighting – as seen in fist fights during Bangalore, Mumbai Press Club elections!

At least for now idea of uniform media credential in India seems bit farfetched. With general public already taking a very dim view of media people and almost daily arrests of fake journalists, it won’t be long before people start questioning all press/media. And when this disgust with media becomes widespread in society and reaches a boiling point, even IDs may not help!

Mangalore Communal Riots: Vijaya Kirana continues bashing police (and supporting criminal elements)

October 13, 2006

Corrupt criminal media in Mangalore have continued their tirade against police – using communal riots as an opportunity to settle score with honest officials.

We earlier reported how “Vijaya Kirana” labelled police forces as “pundas”. Click here for that report.

Now look at this collage – practically every other banner headline in “Vijaya Kirana” shouts “Police are criminals” and almost instigating public against police. (Click below image for larger image – opens in new window)

Vijaya Kirana continues to bash police

This attempt by “Vijaya Kirana” and other eveningers is nothing short of provoking and urging mobs to attack the police.

This blog has always maintained that some in Mangalore Udupi media are using journalism tag for criminal activities. And the above collage again directly proves the connection between underground criminal elements and “journalists” and how these self styled journalists have little regard for any law and openly attack civic institutions like police, courts.

This is not just about Vijaya Kirana – but other rags run like “Karavali Ale” – run by failed journalist turned professional blackmailer B.V.Seetharam – openly claims it can transfer or suspect any police officials who don’t pay hafta to newspapers or obey diktats of its corrupt editors.

And it is a shame that none in Udupi Mangalore media have any guts to protest this misuse of “journalism” tag for conducting open criminal activities. And instead support pervert photographers like Umesh Marpally (photographer for Vijaya Kirana arrested for taking photographs inside emergency ward in Manipal Hospital. Click here for more on that incident)!
